Georgia Girl Fights H1N1 Flu in Poland

ATLANTA (MyFOX ATLANTA) - Eight-year-old Jessica Stapor went to Poland to spend the summer with family, but ended up fighting for her life in a Warsaw hospital.
Stapor's father said doctors in Warsaw didn't realize she was suffering from the h1N1 virus until she stopped breathing.
"She was in really bad condition. This flu is very strong very fast and devastated her lungs," said Stapor's father, John.
John Stapor and his wife were in Georgia when their daughter got sick at the beginning of July. Jessica and 11-year-old brother Michael were visiting family.
John Stapor said he got a call from the U.S. Embassy at 4:00 a.m. "They say your daughter is very bad, condition, you have to come right away," he said.
The 8-year-old was already in a coma by the time the Stapors made it to her bedside. "The first time when I saw her, I didn't recognize her. I almost collapsed," said John Stapor.
Michael Stapor and his grandmother got the H1N1 virus too, but were immediately treated with Tamiflu in the hospital.
"I started to get sick, had a fever then I went to hospital and had the swine flu," said Michael Stapor.
While Michael Stapor recovered quickly, doctors didn't know if his sister would.
The story was front page news in Poland. The country's minister of health even stopped in to see Jessica Stapor.
John Stapor had to bring his son back to Georgia to start school, but his wife stayed behind to be with the couple's ailing daughter.
About a week ago, Jessica Stapor was finally released from hospital and has been staying with relatives in Warsaw. The 8-year-old is walking and the Stapors said they hope she will be strong enough to come home at this month.
"I'm so proud, this is my very lovely, little daughter," said Stapor.
John Stapor said his daughter will have x-rays next week to see how her longs are doing and if those are OK, Jessica should be able to travel back to Georgia.
