ATLANTA - Georgia health officials have confirmed a case of measles in a metro Atlanta resident - the first reported case of the virus in the state since 2020.

Officials say the infected individual was unvaccinated and was exposed to the virus while traveling out of the country.

While officials have not released any identifying information connected to the case, the Georgia Department of Public Health is working to identify anyone who may have been in contact with them while they were infectious....

The Georgia Department of Public Health confirmed a second case of measles in metro Atlanta within the past week: both of them unvaccinated and both in the same family.

DPH spokeswoman Nancy Nydam told The Atlanta Journal Constitution the agency confirmed this second case late Thursday but would share no details such as their ages or hometown.​..

Georgia Health Department confirms second case of measles in metro Atlanta

Following January’s first reported case of measles in the metro Atlanta area in about four years, the Georgia Department of Public Health has confirmed a second case.

However, DPH said there have not been any additional cases from the first and second, and that the incubation period has ended.

On Jan. 18, DPH confirmed an unvaccinated metro Atlanta resident was exposed to measles while traveling outside of the United States. Almost two weeks later, one of their family members, also unvaccinated, was confirmed to have measles.


DPH said there were no additional exposures associated with the case because the person with measles was at home in quarantine...

ATLANTA – The Georgia Department of Public Health (DPH) has confirmed a case of measles in an unvaccinated individual traveling with an international group of students. The individual, who does not live in the United States, is isolated and receiving treatment at a local hospital. DPH is working with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) to identify and contact anyone who may have been exposed to the individual and to prevent further spread of measles.​..

Fifth measles case confirmed in metro Atlanta

ATLANTA — Another case of measles has been reported in metro Atlanta.

According to the Georgia Department of Public Health, the metro Atlanta resident was exposed to measles while traveling out of the country. The resident also was not fully vaccinated.

The DPH said it’s working to identify anyone who may have been in contact with the individual while they were contagious.

This makes Georgia’s fifth reported measle case in 2024...
