Genesee County reports death related to H1N1 flu

GENESEE COUNTY, Michigan -- Public health officials say a Genesee County woman in her 50s died last week from illness associated with the H1N1 influenza virus.
Michigan has had at least 37 deaths associated with the virus since Sept. 1, 2009. The woman had pre-existing health conditions that put her at high risk for complications from influenza, said Genesee County Health Department epidemiologist Fatema Mamou. No other specifics on her death are available at this time other than she had developed pneumonia, Mamou said, but the medical examiner is expected to release autopsy findings before Thanksgiving.
