Gardening Questions thread

Many of us are new gardeners, from what Ive read on several flu forums, theres a large group that are very new to it or have never grown anything but a few tomatoe or bean plants before. Impending pandemic and the resultant desire to be more self reliant has given them impetus to try gardening for the first time.

So theres bound to be questions. What garden questions do you have, that our experienced gardeners can answer?

I don't have a question, I have a solution to share with others.

We have a deer & rabbit problem, they eat everything, we have tried all sorts of repellent sprays, bars of scented soap, human hair and fencing. The repellent, soap and human hair eventually loose their scent and we don't always remember to add more every month or so. The fencing holds the deer off for awhile but eventually they jump it.

Our latest and so far most successful attempt at keeping them away has been old CD's (like all those from AOL) hanging from nearby trees or the fence or the plants themselves. It's low maintenance, all you do is hang it and you're done. They have to be able to move in the breeze, the movement during the day and the moonlight reflecting off at night seems to do the trick, I'll let you know if they wise up.
