Covid-19: 2,955 positive cases against 818 cured in Gabon

The spokesperson for the Steering Committee of the monitoring plan and Riposte against the Coronavirus epidemic in Gabon (COPIL), Dr Guy Patrick Obiang Ndong, announced Thursday in his traditional press conference that the latest assessment of the situation Covid-19 epidemiological reports 2,955 positive cases against 818 cured.

"In total, out of 16,061 samples, we count 2,955 positive cases (18.4%) including 818 cured," announced Dr. Obiang Ndong, indicating also that the country has to date 21 deaths related to Coronavirus.

Almost three months after the discovery of the first case (March 12) of the Coronavirus, the country records more and more infected people but fewer deaths. There are also a significant number of healings.

Gabon has adopted hydroxychloroquine in its therapeutic protocol for Covid-positive. Barrier measures (compulsory wearing of masks, regular hand washing, social distancing) and partial containment of the country seem to contribute to slowing the spread of the virus.

The Gabonese health authorities have set up a daily, complete, precise and updated information point on the evolution of the presence of the coronavirus (Covid-19) in the country. This is done every day at the end of the afternoon by Dr Guy-Patrick Obiang Ndong, Secretary General of the Ministry of Health, at the head of the Steering Committee for the watch and response plan against the epidemic of Coronavirus in Gabon. An exercise in transparency, rare in Africa, which helps to dispel false information and make room for malicious and irresponsible comments that abound on social networks. Here is the one for Wednesday June 10.

Severity risk

Recent health data from treatment centers for people infected with Covid-19 confirm the risk of seriousness of this disease in people who have comorbidities such as high blood pressure (hypertension), diabetes, obesity, asthma, renal failure, etc. These same scientific data show that when these comorbidities are well monitored medically, coronavirus infection can be harmless for these target people. Indeed, many people with co-morbidities have been contaminated with Covid-19 and are cured of it.

It is therefore important for people with co-morbidities to have good medical follow-up, to take their treatment regularly and to have regular follow-up medical examinations.

This advice is also intended for all people who, for various reasons, do not have medical check-ups. Many diseases, such as high blood pressure and diabetes, can progress silently in your body and worsen conditions like Covid-19. It is this unfortunate observation that is made in our hospitals where several of our compatriots discover on the hospital bed that they are carriers of comorbidities.

We recommend everyone to have a regular medical check-up in order to
know their state of health.

Epidemiological situation

In terms of epidemiological surveillance, of the 621 samples taken, we recorded 81 new positive cases distributed as follows:
- Estuary: 60 new cases out of 243 samples, for a total of 2,754;
- Haut-Ogoou?: 15 new positive cases out of 285 samples, including 11 in Franceville, 2 in Moanda and 2 in Bongoville. This brings the total number of positive cases to 472;
- Moyen-Ogoou?: 4 new cases out of 14 samples, including 2 in Lambar?n? and 2 in Ndjol?, for a total of 104 positive cases;
- Ogoou?-lolo: 2 new cases out of 35 samples including 1 in Lastourville and 1 in Koulamoutou, for a total of 11 positive cases.

Regarding care:
- 77 people hospitalized;
- 17 people in intensive care;
- 22 healings, making a total of 978 people healed;
- 01 new case of death in Moanda, a total of 22.

In total, out of 18,753 samples, we record 3,375 positive cases (18.1%) including 978 cured patients and 22 deaths, 77 hospitalized including 17 people in intensive care.

Let us respect the barrier gestures to curb the spread of Covid-19 in our country.

Gabon has just crossed the bar of 26,000 tests at Covid-19 ? DR

The Gabonese health authorities have set up a daily, complete, precise and updated information point on the development of the presence of the coronavirus (Covid-19) in the country. This is done every day at the end of the afternoon by Dr Guy-Patrick Obiang Ndong, Secretary General of the Ministry of Health, at the head of the Steering Committee for the watch and response plan against the epidemic of Coronavirus in Gabon. Here is the one for Thursday June 18.

Spread of the virus

In view of the progressive spread of the virus outside the main provincial capitals, we would again like to challenge all compatriots, especially those living inside the country, on the imperative need to respect barrier gestures.

Indeed, according to information obtained by the provincial coordination of the COPIL Coronavirus, many compatriots live in our provinces without really protecting themselves from Covid-19. Denial of the disease or late awareness has dreadful consequences for the course of the disease. This is why, we ask the populations of the interior of the country, who are becoming more and more contaminated, to apply the barrier gestures in particular the compulsory wearing of the mask, the respect for physical distancing and hand washing.

The Covid-19 is no longer just in Libreville, we must all protect both the populations of Libreville and those in the interior of the country, even those living in cities where the epidemic has not yet been declared.

Epidemiological situation

In terms of epidemiological surveillance, of the 1,168 samples taken, we recorded 111 new positive cases, representing a percentage of 9.4%. The cases are
distributed as follows :

- Estuary: 65 new cases out of 983 samples from Libreville, ie 3,444 positive cases;
- Haut-Ogoou?: 25 new positive cases out of 92 samples, including 23 in Franceville and 2 in Moanda, for a total of 642 positive cases;
- Moyen-Ogoou?: 2 new cases out of 11 samples, ie 1 in Lambar?n? and 1 in Ndjol?, total 134 positive cases;
- Woleu-Ntem: 19 new cases out of 82 samples, including 16 in Bitam, 1 Oyem and 2 in Mitzic, for a total of 76 positive cases.

Regarding care:

- 108 people hospitalized;
- 15 people in intensive care;
- 152 healings, making a total of 1,657 people healed;
- 2 new cases of Covid-19 death in Franceville.
In total, out of 26,041 samples, 4,340 positive cases (16.6%) including 1,657 cured and 32 deaths,

Partnership with CPG

COPIL Coronavirus and the Gabonese Employers' Confederation signed today, in the presence of the Minister of Labor, a partnership agreement in order to facilitate access to Covid-19 screening of employees working in companies affiliated with this confederation. This is a responsible and laudable initiative by employers who, in the interests of protecting their employees, are responding to the call for mass screening launched by the President of the Republic, Head of State.

Indeed, man is at the heart of the development of any society. Investing in the health of people and their employees means working for the productivity and profitability of their business.

This is an opportunity to encourage employees to test for Covid-19 because 30% of employees still refuse to be tested. These people who refuse to do the screening can constitute a source of contamination in companies and compromise their activity.

This awareness is not exclusive to employees in the private sector, it is also intended for employees of public administrations. The sooner you know your virological status, the faster you can treat and cure yourself. Take the Covid-19 test.

Epidemiological situation

Of the 1,110 samples taken, we recorded 107 new positive cases, a percentage of 9.6%. The cases are distributed as follows:

- Estuary: 102 new cases out of 1,100 samples from Libreville, or 3,888 positive cases;
- Moyen-Ogoou?: 5 new positive cases in Lambar?n? out of 10 samples, for a total of 169 positive cases.

Regarding care:

- 69 people hospitalized;
- 12 people in intensive care;
- 70 healings, making a total of 2,177 people healed;
- 0 deaths linked to Covid-19.

In total, out of 32,151 samples, we record 4,956 positive cases (15.4%) including 2,177 cured (43.9%) and 39 deaths; 69 hospitalized including 12 people in intensive care.
