Because Gsgs - we deal with a very morbid subject and sometimes it is nice to have something to make smilies about.

gsgs - Once upon a time, I held the opinion that smilies were useless. Now, as time passes, my opinion has changed. Smilies give a little emotion to otherwise purely intellectual texts. They make it easier to communicate these extra dimensions that the whole world shares, regardless of language: facial expressions reflecting primary emotions!

And, well... I rather liked and enjoyed receiving them. I'm human (and primary basic) after all ;)
