A CASE OF INDIGENOUS DENGUE FEVER CONFIRMED IN PAPEETE
November 28, 2023
A case of type II dengue fever was confirmed this Monday , November 27 at the home of a person who lives in Papeete. This is therefore an indigenous case .
As a reminder, dengue fever has not circulated in French Polynesia for three years despite the presence of mosquitoes carrying the disease across all the archipelagos.
Symptoms of dengue fever appear 3 to 14 days after the infective bite and the most common are high fever , headache, body aches , nausea and rash . If these signs appear , it is recommended to quickly consult a doctor who will prescribe the diagnostic test.
The measures taken to try to stop the spread of the disease are based on the search for and elimination of larval breeding grounds and the use of insecticide treatments in the area where the case stayed during its contagious period .
Thus , the Environmental Health Center of the Health Directorate will carry out treatments in the Fari'ipiti district concerned on Thursday, November 30 and Monday , December 4 at daybreak or shortly after :
In order to anticipate and slow down a possible spread of the disease , the population is recommended to:
• Consult a doctor if dengue fever is suspected (high fever, headache, body aches) ;
• Get rid of mosquito breeding grounds around your home and workplace ;
• Protect yourself from bites, particularly by applying skin repellents, insecticides, diffusers and others.
For any request for information on mosquito treatments , contact the Environmental Health Center ( CSE) of the Health Department at 40 50 37 45 or by email at cse@sante.gov.pf .
