French Guiana - 1 imported case of chikungunya

december 26, 2013

In French Guiana - mainland South America - 1 imported case of chikungunya has been confirmed in the lab.

The case was imported from the Caribbean island Martinique. No locally acquired chikungunya infection has been reported in French Guiana.

Conclusions générales

Guiana: second "imported" chikungunya case in less than a month

By AFP January 21, 2014

A second imported case of chikungunya was confirmed in Guyana, said Tuesday the director of the Regional Health Agency (ARS), Christian Meurin.

"This is a young man from the island of Saint-Martin Friday showed suspicious signs," said the director of the ARS on the first radio Guyana (formerly TER). "The cases of chikungunya about this young man was confirmed last night (Monday)," he has said.

On December 23, the LRA had already revealed the first case of chikungunya "imported" in Guyana.
