The Covid-19 figures for this Friday, July 17: +116 new cases detected
The epidemic is progressing despite the relatively stable daily number of new cases • ? Pr?fecture 973
The number of people affected by the Covid-19 has exceeded 6,500 (precisely 6,509). Out of 276 tests performed in the past 24 hours, almost half were positive.
Karl Constable (sources: ARS and SPF) • Posted on July 17, 2020 at 10.49 am, updated on July 17, 2020 at 10.56 am

The epidemic continues to develop:

Despite a curve that seems to settle ... it is still, today, the island of Cayenne which is at the top of the number of people infected, with 60 new cases. Right behind it is the sub-prefecture with 33 positive tests.
Geolocation of new cases
Geolocation of new Covid-19 cases • ? Pr?fecture 973

114 more people are declared cured, while the number of intensive care patients is stable (25 beds), and there are no new deaths.

Almost 5000 tests were carried out last week (ARS):

the positivity rate was then 24%, like the previous week. This week on the first 1000 tests performed the positivity rate of 21%. For the authorities, the positivity rate has therefore been slowly decreasing since the end of June.

The curve of the Covid-19 cases has reached a plateau and even initiates a descent.

Regional Health Agency

According to the Regional Health Agency: "The drop in the number of new confirmed cases has now been clearly underway for the past 10 days throughout the country except at Saint-Laurent du Maroni (where it seems to be taking place) and on the river Maroni, where the situation must be followed carefully. ”
With a delay of a few days, the number of new hospital and resuscitation admissions also began to decrease, but more slowly. The pressure on the hospital system is slowly starting to ease.

A drop that seems clearly to be underway is what Health Public France also notes in its weekly epidemiological point, published today.

In Guyana, the curve of Covid-19 cases has reached a plateau and even initiates a descent:

However, the figures remain to be handled with caution, as the epidemic is not over. The number of cases now doubles every ten to twelve days, compared to less than three days in France at the start of the epidemic.
With our neighbors, the doubling rate was three to six days.

The case fatality rate is 0.49% according to epidemiological data presented to APMnews by Pr Mathieu Nacher, director of the Antilles-Guyana clinical investigation center at the Cayenne hospital center. It is 7.73% in Ecuador, 5.66% in Guyana or 3.84% in the Brazilian state of Amazonas.

The virus continues to circulate in Guyana as shown in today's Covid info. However, we note that out of 6745 people tested positive, 4714 have recovered.
90 people were found positive in the last two days out of 584 tests carried out. 127 are hospitalized and 24 patients are in intensive care while we deplore another death. Cayenne Island and Saint-Laurent are the main clusters.

The need to continue testing
Fewer cases reported, but squrtout fewer tests. The ARS and social security alerted in a press release on the need to continue screening. To control the epidemic, it is important for people with contagious disease to know their situation, to adapt their behavior and to avoid putting those close to them, especially the most vulnerable, at risk. Only the virological test (RT-PCR) a nasopharyngeal sample allows to know if the virus is present in the person at the time of the sample.
We must therefore not let our guard down.

There should be no traffic jams because in Guyana, the various laboratories are able to perform 8,000 tests. This ability to test makes Dr. Jacques Breton, president of the URPS physicians, say:

At the end of this meeting, the committee recommends:

The provision, in a context of tension on the tests, of 300,000 tests already acquired by the State and devolved primarily to Guyana.
Taking into account the aforementioned means, the establishment of a second PCR test (conventional or saliva) for patients who test positive, as an indicator of the end of their contaminating state.
The allocation of 40,000 Thermo-Fischer tests, in Guyana, to the CNRS and the IRD, as part of the environmental screening program.
And finally the establishment of a statistical serological analysis on a representative sample, making it possible to assess the real impact of the epidemic on the Guyanese population, its immunity but also the sustainability of immune memory.
