Mexico City . - The Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock, Rural Development, Fisheries and Food (SAGARPA) declared bird flu free zones of eastern San Luis Potosi and the central region of the municipality of Mapimi, Durango.

In a statement, the agency said that the National Health Service, Food Safety and Food Quality (SENASICA) found that these areas are free of the disease that affects birds in the region.

SAGARPA explained that the issue of two agreements said those locations free of avian influenza, in order to make more competitive and profitable poultry activity in both regions, whose production value is estimated at more than 929 million pesos.

The action supports the marketing of poultry products and byproducts, which impacts the development of poultry production, worth 242 million pesos in eastern San Luis Potosi and 687 million pesos in the central Township Mapimi, Durango.

The region east of San Luis Potosi includes the municipalities Alaquines, Aquism?n Axtla Terrazas, Cardenas, Ciudad Valles, Coxcatl?n, Ebony, El Naranjo, Huehuetl?n, Lagunillas, Matlock, Rayon, San Antonio, San Martin and San Vicente Chalchicuautla.

Tancuayalab addition, Santa Catarina, Tamasopo, Tamazunchale Tampac?n, Tampamol?n Crown Tamuin Tancanhuitz, Tanlaj?s, Tanquian Escobedo, Xilitla and 94 communities in the municipality City of Maize.

SAGARPA said that the achievements were the result of the actions of the federal government, the governments of San Luis Potosi and Durango, as well as poultry farmers who developed health measures for diagnosis, monitoring, eradication and surveillance of avian influenza.

Detailed epidemiological samples were taken in all poultry farms in production, as well as a statistically representative number of backyard poultry, through which confirmed the absence of notifiable avian influenza.

The agreements provide for the application of sanitary measures to prevent, control, diagnosis, surveillance, traceability, control of the mobilization, transport, transit and marketing of poultry products and byproducts.
