City schools: H1N1 vaccines Oct. 22 and 28
Oct. 12, 2009 12:12 pm
City schools students should come home tomorrow with information about the schools' H1N1, or swine flu, vaccination dates.
This vaccine will be administered to city schools students on Oct. 22 and Oct. 28 at Lafayette Upper Elementary School. Both sessions will run from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m.
The vaccinations are available for city schools students only, and all students must present a signed parental consent form in order to be vaccinated, according to Ralph Ladmirault, director of student services.
Parents should look for those consent forms to come home with notifications about the vaccination. Ladmirault said the schools plan to send those out tomorrow, with a follow-up on Friday.
Ladmirault said the schools have seen a 20 percent increase in the rate of student absenteeism this year compared to last year. At this time, he said they can't pin that increase directly to the swine flu, but schools officials are working with the state to learn more.
Health reporter Jim Hall wrote for Sunday's paper about the distribution of the swine flu vaccination in our region. Look for more information on the vaccine in tomorrow's paper.
