⚠️ Health Alert: Suspected Yersiniosis in wood pigeons

Suspected cases of yersiniosis (pseudotuberculosis) have been reported in wood pigeons in the Armagnac region . This bacterial disease can be transmitted to humans through handling or consumption of infected birds.

How to recognize an infected bird?

Appearance of the liver: Presence of numerous small white or yellowish spots (nodules), as illustrated in the attached photo.
General condition: Birds often thin or weakened.

Safety instructions:

DO NOT CONSUME any bird exhibiting these visceral lesions.

Caution during plucking and evisceration: Wear gloves and wash your hands thoroughly after handling.

Analyses in progress: Samples have been sent to the laboratory to confirm the diagnosis.

We rely on your usual vigilance and adherence to these preventative measures to protect our health and our passion. Please do not hesitate to report any unusual gatherings of bird carcasses via the SAGIR network , so that we can best monitor the evolving situation in the department.
