Six cases of H1N1 influenza have been diagnosed in children hospitalized at the CHU of Rouen.

Six cases of H1N1 flu, biologically proven, were diagnosed between 4 and February 7 in children hospitalized in the pediatric oncology department of University Hospital (CHU) de Rouen.
Most children followed by the service and their parents were vaccinated since the fall of 2009, but six childrens where not vaccinated, because contraindication with treatement.

Once diagnosed, children were put under treatment with Tamiflu, and preemptive treatment with Tamiflu has been prescribed to all children at risk. The outcome was favorable in all young patients, and to date, no new cases are reported. The epidemiological investigation revealed that five of the six children had probably been contaminated during contact with an affected first child ; the causing contamination of the first case could not yet be determined.
Children and their families were informed and the case was immediately reported to authorities. "This event shows, by the direction of hospital, that the H1N1 virus is still present, and confirms the interest of further preventive measures and vaccination, especially recommended for all subjects at risk, their environment and health professionals .
