Three outbreaks of low pathogenic avian influenza virus were confirmed this Sunday in three duck farms in Morbihan located in Arzal, Plum?liau and S?rent. This represents a total of 25,000 ducks.
These three outbreaks were highlighted in the framework of the self-regulation plan set up by the Directorate-General for Food. "The identification of this virus that infects wild birds and domestic birds, without threat to humans, is not exceptional and its circulation is known," said the prefecture of Morbihan in a statement.
Upon confirmation of the results, the Prefect brought together the relevant State departments, the representatives of the Chamber of Agriculture and the municipalities concerned to inform them of the measures provided for in the European regulations and to take into account all matters relating to the affected holdings.

Three outbreaks of the avian influenza virus Low pathogenic were confirmed, Sunday, February 4, in three breeding duck of the Morbihan located in Arzal, Plum?liau and S?rent. All farms represent 25,000 ducks. These outbreaks were highlighted as part of the self-monitoring plan set up by the Directorate General for Food (Ministry of Agriculture and Food).
The identification of this virus that infects wild birds and domestic birds, without threat to humans, is not exceptional and its circulation is known.
On the confirmation of the results, the prefect of Morbihan met Sunday, February 4, in the prefecture, the relevant state departments, representatives of the Chamber of Agriculture and the municipalities concerned to inform them of the measures provided for by European regulations and take into account all matters relating to the affected holdings.
Upon the suspicion of this Avian Influenza, the Prefect, on the proposal of the Departmental Directorate of Protection of Populations (DDPP), ordered the containment of poultry and the restriction of movement of these animals within a radius of 1 km around the three farms infected. The slaughter of infected animals to prevent the circulation of the virus and prevent its possible mutation is also scheduled in the coming days.
The Chamber of Agriculture and the Departmental Direction of Territories and Sea closely follow the situation of the impacted farmers and the consequences on their activity.
The gendarmerie of Morbihan is also mobilized to secure access to farms especially at the time of slaughter.
The detection of these new outbreaks of Avian Influenza virus recalls the importance of measures to prevent contamination between farms including the strict application of biosecurity measures (see sheet in PJ).
No link was found between outbreaks detected in Morbihan and highly pathogenic strains that justified in 2016 and 2017 massive slaughter of poultry in southwestern France.
The compulsory self-regulation plan set up by the Directorate-General for Food aims at the detection of highly pathogenic Avian Influenza virus. It also makes it possible to monitor and control the circulation of low pathogenic viruses and to react quickly in case of detection. Three other outbreaks in other departments were detected this winter. The website of the DGAL> 2018_02_05_cas avian influenza morbihan - format: PDF - 0,23 Mb
