A small duck farm ready to feed was detected by the mandatory test. It could act as a low pathogenic H5 virus

A ready-to-feed duck farm in Saint-Jean-de-Lier, near Chalosse, has been detected positive for the avian influenza virus test. When he had to deliver ducks to a gaveur far more than a kilometer away, he was forced to test his birds, which proved to be positive for the H5 virus. As a result, the sample was automatically sent to ANSES (National Agency for Food Safety, Environment and Labor) to push the analysis and determine the exact nature of the strain.

Meanwhile, poultry have been banned from circulating in the 16 communes around this farm, which is rather part of the short chain, close to autarky. And all the ducks of the detected breeding, which is a breeder-gaveur, were confined . But the small number of animals affected by the test could indicate that this virus is probably low pathogenic , which reassures producers.

"The screening works, the role of the alert is well understood by everyone, is satisfied the Cifog (Interprofessional Committee of webbed foie gras.) Today, it sounds like an alert , but it will soon be the rule, in a year we will take that as a habit. "

Suspicions of bird flu in the Landes: the analyzes have to be redone

A LA MONT-DE-MARSAN Published on 22/12/2017 at 17:25 by Jean-Louis Hugon.

The national laboratory of Ploufragan could not, with the samples sent from Saint-Jean-de-Lier, determine what is the strain of the virus

At the suspected outbreak of avian influenza virus found this Wednesday in Saint-Jean-de-Lier (Landes), everything has to be redone. The departmental laboratory, after analysis of the samples taken from a farm of 1400 ducks ready to feed, detected a virus type H5. But the checks requested by the ANSES laboratory Ploufragan, national specialist in the field, have not confirmed, announce the services of the state in the Landes.

"They did not have enough information to say whether it's the H5 virus or not, explains Christophe Debove, departmental director of social cohesion and the protection of populations." We do not know yet if we are dealing with a outbreak of virus or not, so we must resume the entire procedure. "

New samples were collected from the Landes farm and sent to the departmental analysis laboratory to confirm or refute the first alert. The results are not expected until Saturday morning. Meanwhile, the farms within a radius of 5 km around the farm of Saint-Jean-de-Lier have been placed in temporary control zone, that is to say that any movement of animals is prohibited in sixteen municipalities of the Landes: Saint-Jean-de-Lier, Pontonx-sur-l'Adour, Beggar, Tartas, Audon, Gouts, Onard, Poyanne, Gamarde-les-Bains, Goos, Rent, Cassen, Gousse, Vicq-d'Auribat, Prechacq- les-Bains and Saint-Geours-d'Auribat.

Avian flu in the Landes: the 1400 ducks of the suspected outbreak were slaughtered

Posted on 23/12/2017 at 15h56 by Emmanuelle P?dezert.

Traces of H5 virus found in a duck farm in Saint-Jean-de-Lier led the Directorate General for Food ordered the slaughter of the herd.

1,400 ducks were slaughtered this Saturday morning at a farm in Saint-Jean-de-Lier (40). This is the first flock concerned in the Landes with a suspicion of H5 infection.

The departmental laboratory, after analysis of samples taken from a duck farm ready to binge, had detected a virus type H5, Thursday. Additional analyzes to characterize the virulence of the infection, were asked yesterday Friday.

The results of these additional analyzes did not provide additional information on this virulence.

"But with regard to these traces of H5 virus and on the advice of the national reference laboratory (ANSES) and as a preventive measure, the Directorate General for Food asked for the preventive slaughter of the herd concerned", just indicated, this Saturday, the prefecture of Landes. In agreement with the operator, this preventive slaughter was carried out this morning by the veterinary services of the DDCSPP.

Other information: the temporary control area is now refocused on two communes and no longer 16: Saint-Jean-de-Lier and Vic d'Auribat.

Bird flu in the Landes: a low pathogenic H5N2 strain

Thursday, December 21, a duck farm of the Landes, was placed in quarantine for a suspected bird flu. Due to the impossibility of characterizing the virulence of the virus, the 1400 birds of the farm were slaughtered. Finally, the strain analyzed is weakly pathogenic.

According to the Landes prefecture, the research concerning the virus detected in a Saint-Jean-de-Lier breeding farm was deepened, and made it possible to "conclude to the presence of a low pathogenic H5N2 avian influenza virus", according to a statement issued Friday, December 29.

"It is thus confirmed that the technical measures of preventive slaughter in the concerned breeding and limitation of the movements of poultry in the communes of Saint-Jean-de-Lier and Vic d'Auribat were adapted to the situation." also wrote the prefecture.

Hong Kong suspends import of poultry products from French area over bird flu outbreak

Source: Xinhua| 2018-01-03 20:28:26|Editor: Xiang Bo

HONG KONG, Jan. 3 (Xinhua) -- Food safety authority of China's Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) decided Wednesday to suspend import of poultry products from Landes Department in southwestern France over an outbreak of bird flu.

The Center for Food Safety (CFS) of the HKSAR government's Food and Environmental Hygiene Department said that in view of a notification from the World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE) about an outbreak of low-pathogenic H5N2 avian influenza in Landes, it has instructed the trade to suspend import of poultry meat and products, including poultry eggs, from the area with immediate effect to protect public health in Hong Kong.

A CFS spokesman said that in the first nine months of last year, Hong Kong imported about 10,700 tons of chilled and frozen poultry meat and 7 million poultry eggs from France.
