The Ministry of Solidarity and Health informs that five new cases of coronavirus, 4 adults and 1 child, in the immediate vicinity of an initial case reported yesterday in France, are confirmed. This initial case is a British national, who returned from Singapore on January 24 and who stayed 4 days in the town of Contamines-Montjoie (Haute-Savoie) and returned to England on January 28. France now has 11 confirmed cases of coronavirus.
The 5 people whose diagnosis was confirmed as well as close contacts, ie 11 people in total, all of British nationality, were hospitalized that night (University hospital centers of Lyon, Saint-Etienne and Grenoble). Their clinical condition shows no sign of seriousness.
A crisis unit was immediately set up by the Regional Health Agency (ARS) Auvergne Rh?ne-Alpes. People who have been in close and prolonged contact with these new cases will be informed during the day and will receive specific instructions. This identification of contacts is carried out in conjunction with British and international authorities.
The Minister of Solidarity and Health wishes to salute the mobilization of the health response chain and thanks in particular to the SAMU teams, the infectious diseases and pediatrics departments.
A press conference organized by the Prefect of Haute-Savoie and the Director General of ARS Auvergne Rh?ne-Alpes will be held at 2 p.m. in the prefecture of Annecy.
A specific telephone number has been opened locally to answer questions from those directly concerned: 0 800 100 379.
