Tarn. A first case of avian flu confirmed in a barnyard in Sidobre
Avian flu is still progressing in Occitania. So far spared, the Tarn is experiencing its first official case. It is the fifth department of Occitania affected.
France has been confronted with a new episode of highly pathogenic avian influenza since last autumn.
The epidemic is progressing
As of February 14, 2022, there were 354 outbreaks in livestock, 33 cases in wildlife and 15 cases in backyards. Occitanie is very affected with (as of February 14, 2022) 41 outbreaks in breeding (35 in the Gers and 6 in the Hautes-Pyrénées ), three outbreaks in the farmyard (one in the Gers, one in Haute-Garonne and one in the Tarn ) and four cases in wildlife: two in the Aude (pelican and stork), one in the Hautes-Pyrénées (goose) and one in the Gers (grey heron). That is 44 homes and four cases in all for the region.
Given the large number of outbreaks and the rapid spread of the disease, the State decided, on January 20, on preventive depopulation measures in the departments of Landes, Pyrénées-Atlantiques and Gers.
Slaughtered poultry
In the Tarn outbreak, the poultry have been slaughtered, cleaning/disinfection operations will be implemented as soon as possible. A temporary control zone (ZCT) is set up around the outbreak. It concerns the municipalities of Lacrouzette, Burlats, Saint-Salvy-de-la-Balme, Boissezon, Cambounes and Le Bez.
In this zone, farms holding poultry will be controlled as well as the movement of poultry or their products.
The establishment of this regulated area has no impact on the export of poultry or poultry-based products for Tarn operators. We recall that the consumption of meat, eggs and more generally of any poultry-based food product does not present any risk for humans.
