An outbreak of highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) has been confirmed in a farm of 17,500 turkeys located in the commune of Airon-Notre-Dame (arrondissement of Montreuil-sur-Mer) in the department of Pas-de -Calais.

In order to avoid any risk of spreading the virus to other farms, Jacques BILLANT, prefect of Pas-de-Calais, decided by prefectural decree of July 3, 2023 the implementation of a protection zone (ZP) and a surveillance zone (ZS) deployed within a radius of 3 and 10 kilometers around the outbreak. The list of municipalities concerned is detailed in the prefectural decree and a map available as an attachment.

Within these perimeters, all places where poultry and captive birds are kept are subject to specific requirements. Poultry and other captive birds must be sheltered and movement is prohibited, unless waived by the Departmental Directorate for the Protection of Populations (DDPP). Health monitoring of farms and biosecurity are also reinforced. Any suspicious domestic poultry mortality must immediately be declared to the veterinarian monitoring the establishment.

Furthermore, given the level of circulation of the virus in wild birds and in order to avoid contamination of domestic poultry, it is recalled that farms and poultry yards located in areas at particular risk (ZRP, mainly wetlands ) must shelter the poultry. The municipalities concerned are also listed on the attached map.

The prefect of Pas-de-Calais calls on all players in the sector to remain vigilant and to ensure the strictest application of biosecurity measures, in order to prevent the virus from entering farms via wildlife or activities. humans, but also to avoid its spread between farms. Private owners of backyard and ornamental birds are also invited to follow these recommendations. More information is available at the following address: https://agriculture.gouv.fr/influen...operateurs-professionnels-et-les-particuliers

The DDPP will be required to carry out checks relating to compliance with the measures applicable in restricted areas or ZRPs.

Finally, as a reminder, the consumption of meat, foie gras and eggs and more generally any poultry -based food product does not present any risk to humans.
