A prefectural decree is expected during the day this Monday, December 30, after the confirmation of a case of avian flu in a Calvados farm. The owner had obtained his poultry from the infected farm in Eure at La Poterie-Mathieu.

According to information from France Bleu Normandie, a prefectural decree declaring infection should be published by the end of the day on Monday, December 30, following the discovery of cases of avian flu on a poultry farm located in Calvados, in the Honfleur area .

The owner of the farm concerned had obtained his poultry from the La Poterie-Mathieu farm near Pont-Audemer in Eure, a farm that has since been found to be a hotbed of avian flu. On Friday 27 December, noting an abnormal mortality rate among his animals, the Calvados farmer reported himself , while the epidemiological investigation carried out from the Eure farm had just been traced back to him. A surveillance order was then issued and all marketing of poultry from the Calvados farm was suspended until the presence of the avian flu virus was confirmed.

Slaughter and disinfection in the coming days

According to our information, the risks of the epidemic spreading from livestock in the Honfleur area remain minimal, as the animals are raised indoors. However, the slaughter of all poultry (around 500 hens, guinea fowl and capons) must take place tomorrow, Tuesday, December 31. The poultry will be transported in sealed trailers to the place of slaughter. Disinfection operations on the livestock buildings will be carried out immediately afterwards. The publication of the infection declaration order will make it possible to compensate the Calvados breeder.

Furthermore, and in order to avoid any spread of the virus in the surrounding area, a surveillance perimeter will be set up.
