Alpes-Maritimes: new cases of dengue detected, the department on alert

Five indigenous cases of this disease, also called "tropical flu", were diagnosed in Saint-Laurent-du-Var, in the Alpes-Maritimes.

Five. This is the number of dengue cases detected in the Alpes-Maritimes. After the discovery of a first case on October 4, four other people were also identified on October 8 and 9, according to a statement issued by the Regional Health Agency (ARS) of Provence-Alpes-C?te-d'Azur.

These cases are said to be autochthonous , ie the disease was contracted in France and not during a recent trip. Originally present in the tropical and subtropical areas of the world, dengue fever is now established in Europe to the point that 50 million people are affected each year, according to figures from the World Health Organization (WHO).

Also known as "tropical flu" , dengue is linked to a virus that is transmitted through a tiger mosquito.
