SEINE-ET-MARNE: TWO NEW CASES OF AVIAN FLU DETECTED, 33 MUNICIPALITIES PLACED ON ALERT

Amaury Tremblay
05/19/2023 at 10:53

Two new cases of bird flu have been detected in black-headed gulls in Seine-et-Marne, the prefecture said in a statement on Wednesday . It was in Saint-Pierre-lès-Nemours and Bailly-Romainvilliers that the animals were found dead in the wild on May 12.

Scope over 33 municipalities

The prefecture has set up two "temporary control zones" of 5 km around the two municipalities concerned. 18 around Bailly-Romainvilliers and 15 others around Saint-Pierre-lès-Nemours.

These measures require all breeders and anyone with poultry to keep them inside buildings. A system for disinfection of vehicles and people entering and leaving must be put in place.

These measures may be lifted after 21 days if no new case of avian flu is detected in the two temporary control zones of the department.

First cases in two months

The prefecture of Seine-et-Marne deplores these new cases of avian flu "while the health situation seemed clearly improving". For two months, no case of bird flu had been detected in the department.

The level of risk had been lowered since the end of April from "high" to "moderate" by decision of the Minister of Agriculture.

A temporary avian influenza control zone west of the Etang de Berre

06/06/2023
Following the discovery of two terns infected with the highly pathogenic H5N1 avian influenza virus in the municipality of Fos-sur-Mer, on Monday, June 5, the Prefect of Bouches-du-Rhône issued an order determining a temporary control zone (ZCT) with a diameter of 5 km and the measures applicable in the department.

The municipalities concerned by this ZCT are: Fos-sur-Mer, Istres, Martigues, Port-de-Bouc and Saint-Mitre-les-Remparts.

The management measures implemented in this area aim to strengthen biosecurity in the poultry sector and prevent the spread of this disease to farms and backyards. The measures detailed in the prefectural decree remain in force for at least 21 days after the discovery of the last birds found infected in the ZCT.

Avian flu: new cases detected near Lake Madine

L'Est Républicain - Today at 17:13 | updated today at 17:19 - Reading time: 1 min
| | Viewed 183 times

For several days, a significant mortality of wild birds, in particular terns, has again been observed around Lake Madine. Laboratory analyzes confirmed that these animals were infected with the highly pathogenic avian influenza virus.

In this context and in order to prevent the appearance of the avian influenza virus in farms, the prefect of Meuse, in consultation with the prefect of Meurthe-et-Moselle, issued a new order setting up a zone 5 km temporary control area around the place of discovery of the infected wild birds.

This area includes the municipalities of Buxières-sous-les-Côtes, Heudicourt-sous-les-Côtes, Lahayville, Loupmont, Montsec, Nonsard-Lamarche, Richecourt, Varnéville, Vigneulles-lès-Hattonchâtel and Xivray-Marvoisin.

In order to protect poultry farms, in these municipalities, the sheltering of birds and a restriction of activities associated with the keeping of birds (gatherings, releases of game birds, racing pigeon competitions, etc.) must be respected.

The temporary control zone may be lifted when no new cases have been observed in wildlife for more than 21 days.

Any mortality of wild birds, without obvious cause, in this area must be reported to the DDETSPP.

The Gard prefecture takes measures to stop the avian flu that strikes seabirds

Health , Nimes
Published on06/14/2023 at 10:42
GIL LORFEVRE

A new decree aims to set up a temporary control zone in the municipalities of Aigues-Mortes, Grau-du-Roi and Saint-Laurent d'Aigouze.

The avian influenza virus is now actively circulating in wildlife on the Languedoc coast and affects in particular the family of laridae which are seagulls, gulls and other terns.

A temporary control zone
After the department of Hérault at the end of May, the recent confirmation of several cases of avian flu in the Gard, highly pathogenic in seabirds, has just led the prefect of the Gard, Marie-Françoise Lecaillon, to issue a new order aimed at to set up a temporary control zone in the municipalities of Aigues-Mortes, Le-Grau-du-Roi and Saint-Laurent-d'Aigouze.

Within this temporary control zone, various measures are deployed to protect poultry farms from potential contamination by wildlife, in particular through the strengthening of biosecurity measures (sheltering ... ) and reinforced monitoring of farms with veterinary visits .

Do not feed wild birds
However, it should be noted that any transport of birds to or from a commercial farm is subject to prior authorization from the Departmental Directorate for the Protection of Populations ( DDPP). To avoid spreading the virus to other birds, the general public, and especially owners of poultry farms or backyards, must avoid frequenting wetlands. At the same time, it is requested not to approach or feed wild birds, especially in this temporary control area.

Avian flu: a laughing gull found dead in Saint-Clair in Vienne

Published on 06/24/2023 at 6:02 p.m.
Written by Morgana Jacob

After the discovery of a dead black-headed gull, carrier of highly pathogenic avian influenza, bird flu in the municipality of Saint-Clair, the Vienne prefecture gives instructions to holders of birds or poultry within a perimeter of five kilometers around the contaminated area.

The bird flu virus has once again been identified in Poitou-Charentes. On June 21, the lifeless body of a laughing gull was found in the town of Saint-Clair, in Vienne. The animal was a carrier of HPAI (highly pathogenic avian influenza).

The next day, the prefect of Vienne issued an order to establish a "temporary control zone within a radius of five kilometers around the contaminated zone." In addition to Saint-Clair, six municipalities are concerned: Angliers, Aulnay, La Chaussée, Martaizé, Moncontour and Saint-Jean-de-Sauves.

Finistère: thousands of chicks found dead, the tern colony decimated by avian flu

The largest colony of terns in Brittany is in danger. Bretagne Vivante is sounding the alarm and talking about a "real carnage" on Île aux Moutons, in Finistère.

By Lenaik Jaubert
Published on 24 Jul 23 at 17:39

Nearly 2,000 dead chicks and several dozen adults of terns and other coastal species have been collected since June 2023 on Île aux Moutons , off Fouesnant , in Finistère .

After the gannets

“A year ago in Brittany, at the start of summer, avian flu had a strong impact on the colony of northern gannets in Sept-Îles and had locally caused mortality among gulls . This year, the terns, spared last year in Brittany, are in turn suffering a high mortality rate”, is alarmed by the Bretagne Vivante association .

One of the most important colonies

A situation that is all the more dramatic as the data were rather encouraging at the start of spring: after a 2022 breeding season marked by a lack of food resources and heavy predation by gulls. “The terns had returned en masse to Île aux Moutons, in the Glénan archipelago , at the beginning of spring. »

About 2,500 pairs of sandwich terns, 140 pairs of common terns and 30 pairs of roseate terns have been counted, making the island one of the largest colonies on the metropolitan coast.

“June is usually the month for rearing chicks, which fly away in July. But, this year, the births were not followed by the usual scenes of incessant feeding by the adults, but a real slaughter among the chicks of the three species. »

Living Brittany

Employees of the association and agents of the French Office for Biodiversity collected the thousands of corpses of terns and other coastal species on the island. “And other birds perish at sea or on the coast after losing their offspring,” continues Bretagne Vivante.

Repatriated guards, access prohibited

As a precaution, the island's seasonal caretakers have been repatriated to the mainland since the surge in death cases.

A prefectural health order now prohibits all access to the island. Only a weekly landing makes it possible to follow the evolution of the epizootic and to collect the corpses in an attempt to limit its spread.

“Help us deal with this epizootic, above all by respecting the nesting sites and the regulations that apply there, in particular the ban on landing there,” asks Bretagne Vivante.

In the event of the discovery of dead or dying birds: “Do not touch them above all and notify the town hall, which will be able to take the necessary measures”, concludes the association.

VIDEO. Birds die mysteriously in this large garden in Toulouse

The Animalist Party has been alerting since Friday, September 1, 2023 to the presence of dead birds in the Jardin des Plantes in Toulouse. Here's what's going on.

...
A series of deaths
“There are mallard ducks, but also Barbary ducks that died, details one of the party volunteers. We saw the death of a goose as well, and even a gosling. “A macabre series that remains a mystery for the moment . “Contacted, the French Office for Biodiversity (OFB) confirmed nine deaths to us at this stage, we think more of about fifteen birds concerned. Some animals are in agony”.
...
A bacteria ?
The animals, “sometimes in the stage of putrefaction”, litter the edges of the water which is “certainly polluted by cyanobacteria”, according to the party. “But it's not yet a firm diagnosis. It could also be bird flu or salmonellosis with all the bread being thrown into the water, there are several leads to this epidemic. »

“But for the moment, nothing is done. No confinement, no quarantine for birds that are still healthy, while the lake may be contaminated, ”protests this representative.

These cyanobacteria could be the cause of this mortality with the recent high heat, "but it is quite common and it is not a cause for concern ", concludes the French Office for Biodiversity (OFB). “No hypothesis is decided at this stage”, assures François Ampoulange , municipal councilor delegated “Animal in the City” at the town hall of Toulouse.

No health alert
These investigations have also been initiated by the town hall since last Thursday.

“We had three ducks sent for analysis and seven more reported dead on Friday September 1 , explains François Ampoulange. They were sent for analysis at the OFB to understand their death, it seems, sudden. A dozen birds in total, then.

Contacted, the OFB confirms that a report has been received for three mallard ducks who died . "The state of alert for avian flu has been lifted since the beginning of the summer, these ducks in urban areas can contract many diseases, but at this stage, there is no concern", assures the French Office for Biodiversity. No alert has yet been triggered at the health level.

Current analyzes
If bird flu is confirmed, the prefecture may issue an order to shelter healthy animals. “It has never happened at the Jardin des Plantes, we have always taken great precautions to avoid any contagion”, adds Françoise Ampoulange.

“We will have the results within 15 days. No other animals have died since Friday, she said, "which is quite reassuring." The other animals are collected and then kept for analysis.

New case of avian influenza in Morbihan

Published on 11/28/2023 | Updated 11/29/2023

A herring gull has been confirmed infected with avian influenza in Morbihan. On November 27, close to the gull found infected, a turkey farm was declared an HPAI outbreak; all measures are being taken to manage this first outbreak in breeding in the fall of 2023.

Elevated risk

Faced with the observed increase in cases of highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) in wildlife, with a first outbreak detected in a French farm, France is raising its risk level from negligible to moderate. Learn more .

This decision leads to the immediate implementation of reinforced prevention and biosecurity measures by both individuals and professional actors, including:

  • Shelter for all poultry in areas at particular risk (ZRP)
  • Sheltering of waterfowl aged less than 42 days in zones at risk of diffusion (ZRD) of breeding by wild fauna.
  • Covering vehicles transporting waterflies
  • Restrictions on the transport and use of decoy birds (hunting)
  • Restrictions on gatherings of poultry and captive birds.
