Transmission of the dengue virus has been identified in the H?rault department, in the town
from Cessenon-sur-Orb. This indigenous case has been taken care of and there is no cause for concern about his health.
This person was infected in mid-July while staying near a swimming area and
nautical activities between the towns of Cessenon-sur-Orb and Murviel-l?s-B?ziers, at a place called Le R?als.
The imported case causing the contamination (returning from a trip to a risk area) was identified at
proximity.
Dengue is a generally mild illness whose symptoms are similar to those of the flu (strong
fever, joint pain, severe headache), can be temporarily disabling. This
disease is transmitted from person to person through the bite of a tiger mosquito (Aedes
albopictus) previously infected with the virus.
Since the start of the seasonal surveillance period on May 1 and with the exception of this event,
all cases reported nationally are "imported" cases, linked to returning travelers
in France.
A case is said to be “indigenous” when a person contracts the disease without having traveled to the area.
