FOX dominates night, ABC's bird flu movie fizzles

FOX turned to the King Tuesday to stay atop its ratings throne, as Elvis night on "American Idol" led the network to another ratings win.

FOX averaged a 15.5 rating/24 share in primetime, easily outdistancing second-place CBS, 9.0/14. NBC finished third with a 5.3/8. ABC, which aired a movie about a fictional bird flu pandemic, could barely catch a cold, coming in at 4.7/7. The WB, 2.5/4, came in fifth, beating UPN's 1.5/2.

In the adults 18-49 demographic, FOX's 10.4 rating was far and away the best of the night. CBS finished second at 3.6, with NBC third at 3.1. ABC, 2.1, took fourth, followed by The WB, 1.6, and UPN, 1.0.

"American Idol's" trip to Graceland posted a 16.8/26 for FOX at 8 p.m. "NCIS" scored a healthy 9.9/16 for CBS. ABC's movie "Fatal Contact: Bird Flu in America" was a distant third at 3.6/6. The season finale of "Gilmore Girls," 3.5/5, tied for fourth with NBC's "Most Outrageous Moments." UPN aired a repeat of "America's Next Top Model."

FOX held the lead at 9 p.m. as "House" delivered a 14.6/22. CBS remained in second with "The Unit," 9.1/14. ABC's movie improved slightly, just beating an hour of "Scrubs" on NBC, which averaged 3.7/6. "Pepper Dennis" was fifth in households for The WB, although the season finale of "Veronica Mars," 1.5/2, did slightly better in total viewers and adults 18-49.

"Law & Order: SVU" won the 10 p.m. hour for NBC with an 8.6/14. A second episode of "The Unit" averaged 7.9/13 for CBS, and ABC's "Boston Legal" scored a 6.3/10.s

This just goes to show you why the situation is going to be worse than the Bird Flu movie when the pandemic breaks out.

Americans could care less about it.

They are too busy watching American Idiot.

Sweeps special averages a dismal 1.8 in 18-49s

The bird flu may very become the next big health crisis, but until that time, people don?t want to hear about it. A sweeps movie about the disease was a big stinker last night on ABC.
?Bird Flu in America? averaged just a 1.8 adults 18-49 rating last night from 8 to 10 p.m., finishing fourth in the timeslot and just a hair ahead of the fifth-place WB at 1.6.
That matched the already anemic ratings posted by ABC?s sitcom block in the same slot last week, a far cry from the ratings boost the network had hoped to receive with the sweeps stunt.
Meanwhile, Fox finished first for the night among 18-49s with a 10.4 rating and 27 share. CBS was a distant second with 3.6/9 followed by NBC with 3.1/8, ABC with 2.1/5, AB with 1.6/4, Univision with 1.4/4 and UPN with 1.0/3.

Fox led the night at 8 p.m. with an 11.4 for ?American Idol? followed by CBS with a 3.5 for ?NCIS? and WB with a 2.2 for the ?Gilmore Girls? finale. NBC was fourth with a 1.7 for an original (1.6) and a repeat (1.8) of ?Outrageous Moments,? ABC fifth with a 1.6 for ?Flu,? Univision sixth with a 1.5 for ?La Fea Mas Bella? and UPN seventh with a 0.9 for an ?America?s Next Top Model? rerun.

At 9 p.m., Fox held its lead with a 9.5 for ?House? followed by CBS with a 3.8 for ?The Unit? and NBC with a 2.6 for ?Scrubs.? ABC was fourth with a 1.9 for the second hour of ?Flu,? Univision fifth with a 1.5 for ?Barrera de Amor,? UPN sixth with a 1.1 for the ?Veronica Mars? finale and WB seventh with a 1.0 for ?Pepper Dennis.?

At 10 p.m., NBC took the lead with a 4.8 for ?Law & Order: SVU? followed by CBS with a 3.6 for ?Unit,? ABC with a 2.7 for ?Boston Legal,? and Univision with a 1.1 for ?Ver para Creer.?

Among households, Fox won the night with a 15.5 rating and 24 share. CBS was second with 9.0/14, NBC third with 5.3/8, ABC fourth with 4.7/7, WB fifth with 2.5/4, Univision sixth with 1.8/3 and UPN seventh with 1.5/2.

The saddest thing is that we have actually had plenty of lead time to prepare for this pandemic but because Americans don't want to "think about it" it will cause them immense pain and suffering.

I applaud ABC for trying to do both enterainment and a public service, but unless someone splashes cold water on the face of Americans it doesn't seem to matter for the masses.

They live in a place where nothing can harm them, a place where their government will protect them, a place where they are invincible and so is America.

It's the same place where you can find Peter Pan and Little Miss Muffet.

DB. I completely agree ...and going one step further, I don't think Americans will ever want to seriously prep until people start dying and then, of course, it will be too late. IOW, there could be some serious h2h clustering confirmed in China and spreading, and still there will be no prepping urgency here in the U.S. We here on this forum will have no problem doing last-minute (jit) prepping. The American public will have no clue as to the seriousness of the initial efficient h2h outbreaks especially if they occur in distant countries.
