While classes may have started for most TCU students, a handful are out of commission while they recover from Swine Flu.

In a release sent to students and faculty on the first day of classes, the private Fort Worth college said they had 10 students that have started the semester with H1N1.

The school is following CDC guidelines and is not closing the institution, but recommending the ill students "Avoid the general campus population and not attend classes until fever-free for 24 hours."

FORT WORTH, TEXAS - Texas Christian University, 8700 students strong, and during the first week of school, more than three dozen students are weakened with flu-like symptoms. Since the seasonal flu is still weeks away, the cases are likely H1N1.

Don Mills, vice chancellor for student affairs says it's been a busy first week.

"We don't really know how many are sick. We are trying to keep them apart, but it's been a steady rise."

The CDC is now recommending schools not close and for the sick not to stay away for a week. TCU is taking care of suspected swine flu patients and advise them not to return to class until they are fever free for 24 hours.

"We ask them to stay away from others, that way the virus doesn't spread. Says Mills.

There are so many places for the virus to spread. Computer keyboards, bank ATM's and exercise equipment. Students are keenly aware the virus may be anywhere. Freshman Lauren Shadle is constantly washing her hands.

"I know about ten students have it, I know I don't want it, that's all I know.

TCU is trying to stop the spread. There are posters encouraging students to practice good hygiene and there are hand sanitizers all over campus, even finger foods are no longer served at catered events.

"We're just trying to encourage people to do what their parents told them to do. Be smart about things." Says Mills.

Lauren may be a freshman, but she learns fast.

"Every time I see someone sneeze or cough, I move away from them."

TCU officials say they are working closely with the Tarrant County Health Department to fight the spread of H1N1>
