Red alarm in foot and mouth disease (from anatolian agency - summary trans)

The foot and mouth disease has reached explosive levels in January due to the genetic mutation of the virus. After even the "free from disease" region of Trakya has shown the disease, EU has sent a team of investigators to Turkey as well as 2.5 million doses of vaccination. Although vaccinations has been made in the fall of 05, the disease increases has been tremendous since the sacrifice holiday in December. Most European countries in which foot and mouth disease is seen culls all animals effected or suspected to be effected, whereas due to economic reasons, Turkish cases can only be vaccinated.

(OK, red meat is gone from the table as well, i might as well start setting up a soy bean farm!!! - zk)

(the village that my grandmother lives, mustafakemalpasa, near bursa, is greatly effected by this disease, as said on the news and from my conversations with her. she says all the meat in the market is totally gone, and even butchers dont sell meat anymore)
