Elon Musk completed his takeover of Twitter Inc. TWTR 0.66%increase; green up pointing triangle Thursday, according to people familiar with the matter, capping an unusual corporate takeover battle and setting up one of the world’s most influential social-media platforms for potentially sweeping change.

Mr. Musk fired Chief Executive Parag Agrawal and Chief Financial Officer Ned Segal after the deal closed, the people said. Spokespeople for Twitter didn’t comment.

It wasn’t immediately clear who would step into those top positions. CNBC previously reported the firings.

Donald Trump, Kanye West: Twitter bans that could be reversed under new owner Elon Musk

October 28, 2022 11:21am

By Nika Shakhnazarova

In one of his first acts as the newly minted owner of Twitter, Elon Musk is expected to reinstate users who have received lifetime bans.
... will do away with the bans because he does not believe that anyone should be removed from the site for life, a source told Bloomberg News.

A self-described “free speech absolutist,” he previously said he is looking to give users a “timeout” rather than a lifelong ban.

The end of the practice could see the return of some of the top-followed accounts. Below, we take a look at some of the banned users who might get a second chance on the site.

Donald Trump
Former President Donald Trump was booted from Twitter and other large social media platforms after the events at the US Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021.

Kanye West
Controversial rapper Kanye West was among the stars slapped with a Twitter ban following a slew of foul-mouthed, anti-Semitic remarks in recent weeks.

Marjorie Taylor Greene
Twitter permanently booted Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene from the social media platform in January, saying she had repeatedly violated its policies by posting misinformation about the COVID-19 pandemic.

Steve Bannon
Former White House chief strategist Steve Bannon was booted from Twitter in November 2020 after he suggested that Dr. Anthony Fauci and FBI Director Christopher Wray should be beheaded.

Milo Yiannopoulos
In 2016, Twitter announced it had moved to permanently suspend a number of user accounts, including that of Breitbart tech editor Milo Yiannopoulos, for abuse of comedian Leslie Jones.

Azealia Banks
Scandal-scarred rapper Azealia Banks was slapped with a Twitter ban in 2016 after years of public feuds and hurling slurs.

Roger Stone
Roger Stone, a right-wing firebrand and friend of President Donald Trump, was kicked off Twitter in 2017.
Stone went on a profanity-laced, multi-post rant against CNN anchors Don Lemon and Jake Tapper, the Washington Post’s Carl Bernstein, the Weekly Standard’s Bill Kristol, and other journalists and commentators.

David Duke
Former Ku Klux Klan leader David Duke was permanently banned from Twitter in 2020 for spewing hate speech on the social media platform.

Katie Hopkins
Twitter permanently banned controversial British political commentator Katie Hopkins in 2020 for violating the platform’s “hateful conduct” policy.

Lin Wood
L. Lin Wood, the lawyer for Kenosha killer Kyle Rittenhouse, fumed that he was “going to take Jack Dorsey’s ass down” after Twitter banned him from the platform in 2020 as he tried to raise money for his client.

It will be very interesting to see what happens. Twitter is a private company now so Musk can literally decide anything.

Not Just Trump: Here Are The Other Notorious Names—Jones, Shkreli, Yiannopoulos Included—Who Could Be Unbanned On Twitter

... Alex Jones (@RealAlexJones): The controversial radio host who regularly shared conspiracy theories, calls for violence and hate speech was banned back in 2018 after violating Twitter’s abusive behavior policy.

... Aubrey Huff (@aubrey_huff): The former San Francisco Giants baseball star was banned from Twitter in August last year after he repeatedly shared misinformation about Covid-19 vaccines and suggested the shots can make people sicker.

... Martin Shkreli (@MartinShkreli): The former hedge funder and “Pharma Bro,” who served jail time for committing securities fraud, was permanently bannedback in May 2017 after he tried to skirt a temporary ban—which he received for harassing a journalist—by setting up an alternate account.

... George Zimmerman (@TherealGeorgeZ): The Florida man who shot and killed Trayvon Martin, an unarmed Black teenager, in 2012 was banned back in December 2015 for breaking the platform’s rules on revenge porn after he posted semi-nude photos of his ex-girlfriend and used a racial slur.

Musk got moderated. I was repulsed and frightened when Twitter was a hate forum against people who weren't Covid vaccinated, etc. I have to stand against laughing at elderly men being beaten with hammers, too. One evil doesn't make another right.

Hopefully we can get Musk to stop torturing monkeys, too. :D

Apparently Musk owns a company that is/was using experimental monkeys in brain implant research. link

Use of N-word on Twitter jumped by almost 500% after Elon Musk's takeover as trolls test limits on free speech, report says

Racist tweets quickly surface after Musk closes Twitter deal

I should clarify that I do understand why Musk got angry about HRC politically using an elderly man's brutal beating. Just calling that out as cynically despicable would be the better way to respond, IMO.

If Musk can achieve a broad spectrum platform, it will be a miracle. It really won't be his fault if he can't.

He will have to start with a few basic rules or the site will devolve further into an internet flame war.

FT has over 100k tweets over 13 years. I would like him to save twitter but FT has left once and is willing to leave again. We are a content provider to twitter.

What?? FluTrackers will NEVER pay anything for any checkmark or enhanced promotions.

What is his definition of "content creator" and what is the reward?

This site will not accept any $ from twitter.

We can not be bought.

Twitter’s current lords & peasants system for who has or doesn’t have a blue checkmark is bullshit. Power to the people! Blue for $8/month.

@elonmusk - Operating the world's main open forum is a public trust - not a profit opportunity.

We will NEVER pay for upgraded priorities on this site. Many charities can not even afford $1.

Sliding us down the search results for not paying is shadow banning.

Omg...

I will explain the rationale in longer form before this is implemented. It is the only way to defeat the bots & trolls.

Yes, this will destroy the bots. If a paid Blue account engages in spam/scam, that account will be suspended.

Essentially, this raises the cost of crime on Twitter by several orders of magnitude.

Ok. This "inner masochist" and "complainer" is out. I am not going to waste my time tweeting content only to be pushed down in the search results by thousands of paying participants. We are a charity made up of global volunteers. We do not sell anything.

Think of who will be the participants who are willing to pay for priority search result placement.

Big pharma, legacy media, governments.......

Totally stole idea of charging for insults & arguments from Monty Python tbh

There are a lot of jokes circulating on twit now. Here is one about the replacement for the censor guru that was fired yesterday:

Craig Spencer MD MPH

BREAKING : Twitter reportedly hiring Iver Mectin to tackle Covid-19 misinformation across the platform.

Snark and cruelty have been circulating for a long time there. They are 'experts' at that.
