FluTrackers software upgrade

Hi Everyone,

We are upgrading FT's software.

The upgrade will begin Friday 26th Sept, 11:50 pm EDT (about 16.5 hours from the time of this post).

The site will be down during this time. Expected down time is 4 hours.

H5N1experts.org will be opened for posting, you do not need to register.

Copies of current discussion and tracking threads will be available there.

When the upgrade is completed posts will be copied to FT.

There are a number of new features with the upgrade.

Including a social networking system.

-Reciprocation of Friendships Between Users
users can now request that people on their buddy list confirm their friendship, after which time a person's list of confirmed friends will be viewable to other users.

-Public Messaging
allows users to communicate publicly via their profile pages.

To switch on and off public messaging and friends features:

Go to your "User CP"
select "Edit Options"
check "Enable/disable Visitor Messaging"
check "Receive Friendship Request Email"

I have switched off the visitor messaging and the emails for "friendship" for Fla1. Everyone here is on my friendship list! Private message me anytime or send an email to ftcom@embarqmail.com

The primary reason we upgraded the vbulletin software is that this version has better security to protect the program. If there are some features that the members find problematic, we can disable them.

when you peek at someone's profile, then this is publically listed now,
so think twice before viewing profiles !

maybe for new members "friends" and "public messages" should be
set off as default, with an option and invitation to switch it on.

also tags

we have tags now, which you can add to threads so they are found
from other threads with at least one of those tags

only 5 tags are allowed per thread, can we have more ?
