Re: Links - Updated U.S. Death Counts

Re: Links - Updated U.S. Death Counts

thanks pflu, Jim + cutter. I've edited the Oregon info to include the new location on Oregon #3, and added new Arizona and North Carolina deaths.

On the suspected list there are 4 new NY deaths and 2 new Iowa deaths. :tiphat: pflu (how on earth are you finding all this?)

The German cluster of suspected deaths I think would be better suited for an international death thread, if we have one. I know foreigner was asking about someone starting a FluTrackers global death count in the discussion room, but I don't know if anyone ever did.

What does everyone want me to do about Washington #4?

Re: Links - Updated U.S. Death Counts

Re: Links - Updated U.S. Death Counts

Hi appleblossom,

I've been saving these as I come across them for several months now. I had about 50% of them when I did the Missouri Origin write up but didn't disclose the details as it would have been info overload. Since then I've found the other half and it's amazing how every time they land in cluster locations like San Antonio / Dallas, NYC, Penn State, Western PA, or Missouri.

You can find sporadic ones in non cluster locations, but its just a handful and they are not nearly as suspect as these cluster cases.

Here are two more good suspect ones...

2/11/09 - Teague, TX school teacher - 37 died
http://www.corsicanadailysun.com/news/local_story_042155310.html

2/10/09 - PA - Unknown / Natural death, he was sick a few days earlier and then found dead - college student.
http://www.pennlive.com/midstate/index.ssf/2009/02/cause_of_iup_students_death_re.html

The ones i've been posting are good suspect cases because influenza was never tested for and autopsy and eyewitness accounts point towards the flu.

There are also many suspect cases were influenza was confirmed that are on the map. I think they are good suspect cases because of how they are clustered and they were probably never sub typed. Here are a few examples...

2/18/09 [1 Death] Bonham Middle School student - Influenza A...
http://www.amarillo.com/stories/022009/new_12645374.shtml

2/10/09 Influenza A - Levittown, N.Y (Long Island) - 10 / Female

Would It be possible to separate all these pre-swine flu suspect cases (anything prior to 4/24/09) and include a link to the map...

http://maps.google.com/maps/ms?ie=U...774769,-94.746094&spn=54.746236,84.199219&z=4

Im trying to get people interested in that map so we can piece together as many early details as possible. I really think it's starting to show how and where the virus originated.

BTW: This thread is really important and hand's down the best source anywhere on the net for these details. - Nice Work!

Re: Links - Updated U.S. Death Counts

Re: Links - Updated U.S. Death Counts

pflu, whoa. I had no idea you had that much pre-outbreak data collected. I don't know what anyone else thinks about it, but IMO you should start a new thread for just suspected cases, with a link to your map, and we can move the info into its own thread and track it separately. This thread can be pared down to just confirmed deaths. Maybe that would make it easier for people to find the info they are looking for. Wotan pointed out that "Updated U.S. Death Counts" is getting so long and jumbled up, it's difficult to find anything in it. And I have to agree :)

What do you think guys? Can we nominate pflu as our new Suspected Death tracker?

I second that nomination. :iagree:

Pflu - Would those early cases have been AH1 unsubtyped in the surveillance reports? If so, do you know if the health departments save samples and might be able to subtype them months after they were collected?

This is such important information, the CDC should be made aware of it, if they don't already know.

Re: Links - Updated U.S. Death Counts

Re: Links - Updated U.S. Death Counts

Thanks Guys,

I would like that, I will start a new thread for suspected cases.

Re: Links - Updated U.S. Death Counts

Re: Links - Updated U.S. Death Counts

great! post #414 has the most recent list of suspected cases, if you want to grab it. You can do with it whatever you like.

I can also change the title of this thread to "FluTrackers Confirmed U.S. Deaths" to make it easy to distinguish what info is here.

Sound okay?
