I had run into a previous death initially labeled ARDS and later determined to be H1N1. Can't remember where though.

It's possible that this is one included in the NYC numbers where they didn't revel patient age details.

Since it occurred in NYC odds are it's H1N1 and very suspect in my opinion.

any suspected deaths we find in NYC are going to be difficult to handle for that reason. I'm thinking every suspected NYC death might need an automatic "confirmed ??" disclaimer.

If true, this is one of those anomalies that I go on and on about. Why?

Well, how common is it for a 6 y/o to have a heart attack? Not common, in fact rare unless it is caused by something else like his lungs being so involved with some pathological event that he was no longer able to oxygenate his blood. This would indeed be a reason for Cody to have a heart attack.

We know from what little clinical data that has been released that the presentation of pandemic novel influenza is different among different people. The presentation in the young is unlike that seen in those after puberty.

Cody's clinical course and the findings at his autopsy have not been released. Until they are, for the reasons mentioned above, I favor keeping him listed in the suspected column.

Thank you.

We need to verify exactly what qualifies as "pre-existing medical conditions" and how that determination is being made in the folks issuing the press releases from the various local, State, and Federal offices.

Earlier, I read a few reports about fatalities being determined to have "pre-existing" "undiagnosed" medical conditions such as hemorrhagic liver and kidney disease in the autopsy findings in otherwise healthy young adults. Was that "pre-existing" condition found in an autopsy the result of a non-diagnosed problem, or as a result of an autopsy that didn't fully appreciate the potential effects of a novel virus? If folks have pre-existing hemorrhagic liver or kidney disease, it usually or always provided clinical signs and symptoms requiring medical care.

Ref: Hemorrhagic nature of multisystem organ failure seen in the 1918 H1N1 pandemic.

I am not a conspiracy theorist, but I think we aren't getting the whole story of what is happening in slow motion around us in clusters of severity.

Agreed. We are getting the classic mushroom treatment.

Does this list contain anyone not in the non-detailed report? I am trying to use those to add new deaths to the spreadsheet I am keeping and want to try not to miss anyone or have extras. As it is I am already +3 on you, so maybe I need to redo my spreadsheet again. :S

The details list I keep posting up only covers info for the confirmed deaths reported on FluTrackers, and the other list, the one with only numbers, has separate info at the bottom for any suspected deaths ... (does that make any sense?). So if you want your spreadsheet to only cover confirmed H1N1 deaths, stick with the details list.

I have no idea if any of it is correct or not, but people have been pretty good so far about pointing out errors and corrections. I have also been comparing it to other lists on the web to see if I screwed something up. But I can't promise you it's correct

Re: Links - Updated U.S. Death Counts

in fact, I just had to edit the latest details list ^^posted above^^ for some state totals which I had neglected to update. the individual entries were correct but the totals for some states were wrong. is that what was screwing you up?

First death in North Carolina.

State confirms first death related to H1N1

The North Carolina Division of Public Health say an adult resident of Guilford County has died of H1N1 virus. It is the state's first death related to the virus that has spread around the world.

The adult, who died Friday, had underlying medical conditions, the division said in a news release, and died following a brief hospitalization. Testing at the State Laboratory of Public Health confirmed the adult was infected with the pandemic H1N1 virus.

Re: Links - Updated U.S. Death Counts

I believe it is the same patient.

The initial reports said the patient was positive for H1N1, but fell short of stating the virus as the cause of death. Later reports are listing this as a confirmed H1N1 death.

Here is an additional link.
