EL PASO COUNTY, Texas -- The City of El Paso Department of Public Health is investigating an H1N1 flu-related death. A 59-year-old man from Northeast El Paso County was hospitalized with an influenza-like illness and confirmed to have the H1N1 flu, city health officials said. No other information about the death was released.

This is the fourth death in El Paso County associated with the H1N1 flu. A 43-year-old man who had been diagnosed with a probable case of the H1N1 flu died the first week in June of complications of the disease.

A pregnant 24-year-old woman died May 24 and a 42-year-old man died May 19.

El Paso County has had 244 confirmed cases of H1N1 flu to date, city health officials said.

June 25, 2009 ? The City of El Paso Department of Public Health is investigating the death of an 82-year-old Central El Paso County man, who was recently hospitalized with an influenza-like illness.

Laboratory tests conducted confirmed that he had novel H1N1 Flu (swine flu). This is the fifth fatality in El Paso County to date associated with the novel virus.

To date El Paso County has had 259 confirmed cases of H1N1 influenza. The vast majority of the individuals affected have recovered. Most cases have been mild.​

no, Ontario Canada death is not included in the Flutrackers U.S. total, at least not until we can trace him back to a certain state.

I appreciate everyone pitching in to sort out the inevitable mistakes and omissions. This *is* very confusing.

can someone help me sort out the Texas list again? I am confused on Bexar County vs. Northeast El Paso (the one that Jim has pointed out).

There have been 13 people with H1N1 who have died in Texas. Two women and a man in Bexar County died in June. A boy and a woman from Hidalgo County, a man in El Paso County and a woman from Victoria County died in early June. A man and a woman in El Paso County and a girl from Fort Bend County died in late May. A Cameron County woman and a Nueces County man died in early May, and a young boy from Mexico City died in a Houston-area hospital in April.

I counted backwards on our list and couldn't come up with the Bexar County man who died in June, so I thought it was the 59 year old man TX Death #11. Is Northeast El Paso and Bexar County roughly the same location?

Bexar County is where San Antonio is and that is a good 400-600 miles east of El Paso.

the way I read this, and going by my list, I believe that the TX DOH did not include either the 59 yr-old or the 82-yr-old males, which were both reported in the media yesterday/today. The DOH report is dated 6/24/09, and likely (?) did not include deaths that occurred that day.
At least, that's how I see it. Also, the DOH narration of the deaths is arranged in reverse chronology of reporting date, so it should be sort of easy to keep track of, no?

I am reading the DOH report as the 3 Bexar Co deaths are being reported late, even though they occurred in mid-June. I have the counties for all the previous deaths, and Bexar has not been noted before.
Or......am I totally confused?

It is very confusing.

What is clear is that the official Texas total only accounts for 3 deaths in El Paso County. The new reports bringing the total in El Paso County to 5 must have come in after the weekly Texas count as Cutter suggested. On my list, I am going to list the deaths of the 59 year old and the 83 year old in El Paso County as numbers 14 and 15 for Texas.

I am just not sure whether to list them as probably or confirmed. Thoughts?

I think the Bexar deaths were all new as of that report. :confused:
