Flu virus has claimed the lives of two people in North Georgia, according to the Georgia Department of Public Health.
The H1N1 strain of the flu is becoming deadly this winter, hitting young and middle-aged people hard. Health officials said there is no record that either person got a flu shot. Both deaths are out of 20 reported flu-related deaths so far statewide. Eleven people died after contracting the virus in Tennessee.
More people are showing up to one Hixson area clinic with flu-like symptoms.
"A lot of people think that, 'Oh, I've just got a cold, and I can't get any treatment.' But it's actually not true," said Dr. Teresa Baysden of Doctors Express. "Colds don't generally produce a fever. So, anything that's over 100.5 is considered a fever, (and) you definitely need to be seen as quickly as possible."
Quicker is better. This flu season is attacking young and middle-aged immune systems.
