Flu Outbreak closes school in Gumushane

The boarding school has been closed due to an outbreak of flu. (Turkey has many of these boarding schools - they are state elementary schools (grades 1-8) and all students come from rural areas and a typical school of this kind has about 500 - 2000 students - zk)
Gumushanes' Kurtun regions Ulukoy Boarding School has been closed due to a flu outbreak until March 20th.

Governor Veysel Dalmaz stated that the majority of the students in the school has flu infection and stated health officials and doctors are taking the necessary steps. "There is a regular flu virus, not the bird flu" he said. All 444 students have been seen by doctors, and we decided to close the school to classes for fear that it would spread to the children who aren't sick.

G?m?şhane'nin K?rt?n il?esindeki Uluk?y Pansiyonlu İlk?ğretim Okulu'nda, grip salgını nedeniyle ?ğretime 20 Mart Pazartesi g?n?ne kadar ara verildi.

Vali Veysel Dalmaz, yaptığı a?ıklamada, Uluk?y Pansiyonlu İlk?ğretim Okulu'ndaki ?ok sayıda ?ğrencinin gribal enfeksiyon ge?irdiği bilgisini aldıklarını belirterek, ''Bununla ilgili Sağlık M?d?rl?ğ? ekiplerimizi ve doktorlarımızı g?revlendirdim. Arkadaşlarımız okulda gerekli inceleme ve muayeneleri yaptılar. Gribal enfeksiyon var, kuş gribi değil'' dedi.

Endişe edilecek bir durum olmadığını ifade eden Vali Dalmaz, şunları s?yledi:

''?zellikle yatılı ?ğrenciler arasında ?ok ?abuk bulaşan bir hastalık s?z konusu. Yapılan inceleme ve sağlık kontrol? sonucu 364'? yatılı, 89'u g?nd?zl? olmak ?zere toplam 444 ?ğrencimizin ?ğrenim g?rd?ğ? Uluk?y Pansiyonlu İlk?ğretim Okulu'nu, İl?e Hıfzısıhha Kurulu kararı doğrultusunda 20 Mart Pazartesi g?n?ne kadar tatil ettik. Hastalığın yaygınlaşmaması ve diğer ?ğrencilerimize bulaşmaması i?in b?yle bir karar aldık. ?ğrencilerimiz Pazartesi g?n? yeniden eğitim ve ?ğretime başlayacaklar.''
