Flu-like symptoms prompts visitation ban at Corner Brook hospital
The Telegram

Western Memorial Regional Hospital has put visitation restrictions in place due to the number of patients in the facility with flu-like symptoms.
Limited exceptions for visitation may be made on a case-by-case basis, according to a release. People are asked to contact the nursing unit directly for instructions on how to proceed.
Children under 14 years of age should not visit within the hospital during the ban.
As well, most of the hospital?s volunteer programs are being suspended temporarily. People are asked to contact Western Health?s residential services department for more on that.
The health authority says people who have any influenza like symptoms ? including cough, fever, runny nose and headache ? should refrain from visiting its facilities.
It suggests that individuals with any of these symptoms rest at home, drink fluids, practice proper hand washing with water and soap, and if the symptoms persist, contact their physician.
To prevent the spread of infection in institutions, it suggests washing or sanitizing hands when entering or leaving any of Western Health?s facilities.
It also says there may be times when people will be asked to follow special precautions or instructions when visiting. Those include wearing gloves, gowns, masks or washing hands.
