Dozens of Flu-Like Cases at Elementary School in Radnor
by KYW's Mark Abrams
As the school year draws to a close, the Radnor Township School District in Pennsylvania is confirming a high incidence of flu-like cases in one of its elementary schools.
District superintendent Linda Grobman sent out a letter to parents on Monday, advising them of a sharp rise in absences at the Ithan Elementary School in Radnor.
Grobman says that more than 70 students at Ithan were out sick on Monday with flu-like symptoms, such as fever along with a cough or sore throat.
She says the district has been in touch with the Pennsylvania Department of Health and has been advised to alert parents to keep any youngsters exhibiting any influenza-like symptoms at home so they do not infect others.
And, Grobman suggests that if the child is staying home, parents may want to take him or her to the doctor.
The district is not closing the elementary school, but has stepped up sanitation measures there and at all other schools. Those measures include wiping down with disinfectants all door knobs, light switches, classroom desktops, stairway railings, and restroom fixtures.
Seniors are scheduled to graduate on Wednesday and that will go on as planned at Villanova's pavilion.
The last day of classes at Radnor schools is next Tuesday, June 16th.
