Many absences close Robert E. Lee Academy for week
Date Published: October 13, 2009
BISHOPVILLE -- Robert E. Lee Academy will close for the rest of the week due to several illnesses, including swine flu, school Headmaster Phillip Rizzo announced this morning.
Classes will finish as regularly scheduled today, but the private school will not hold classes again until Monday.
Rizzo said about 15 percent to 20 percent of the student body has been absent the past three school days for various reasons, including swine flu, flu-like symptoms, upper respiratory problems and strep throat. He said he decided to close the school as a precaution.
All extracurricular activities, including those that were scheduled after school today and tonight, are canceled. That includes Friday's football game at Florence Christian School, which has been tentatively rescheduled for Monday.
