Flu illness and deaths continue in St. Louis area


Barnes-Jewish Hospital reports more than 360 cases of flu, with 10 deaths, so far this flu season. A spokeswoman said the numbers are staying fairly consistent with the amount of patients testing positive and those admitted to the hospital.

A spokeswoman for SSM Health Care said since the October 1 start of the flu season until January 12, SSM Health Care ? St. Louis has had about 990 total positive flu tests from its patients. Additionally, SSM Health Care reports a total of six influenza-related deaths at its St. Louis hospitals.

Mercy Hospital St. Louis reports 11 new flu cases last week, with a total of 152 patients testing positive for influenza for the season. Mercy reports two deaths from the flu thus far.
