The Federal Office for Public Health says that the rate of influenza has skyrocketed since the beginning of the year.

And it?s officially an epidemic now.

Virological activity in Switzerland during the week 01/2013
During the week 1, 95 practitioners of the Sentinel system reported 17.2 cases of influenza suspicion on 1?000 consultations. This rate increased highly compared to the one reported previous week (11.3 cases for 1000 consultations). Extrapolated to the whole population, it corresponds to 96 consultations for an influenza-like illness for 100?000 inhabitants, it is twice the rate observed last week (45/100 000). The national threshold was bypassed during the week 1/2013. The highest incidence was observed in the 30-64 years (Table 1).
