TAYLOR COUNTY (WAOW)--

Officials at the Medford School District are canceling classes at all public and private schools for the rest of the week because of the high incidence of influenza like illness.

Classes at all Medford School District Schools will be closed Wednesday, October 14 until Monday, October 19. All activities are also canceled including those scheduled for Tuesday night.

According to a press release the Medford School District confirmed cases of 2009 H1N1 influenza virus among students, increasing the rate of absenteeism to over 19%. The high school rate alone is at 30%, according to that same press release. That means about one out of five students are experiencing influenza-like illness symptoms.
