AUSTIN (KXAN) - Central Texas doctors are reporting an increase in flu activity.
This is the time of year the flu usually begins showing up, and doctors only expect it to grow in numbers as the winter continues.
Patients must feel really bad to go to the emergency room with flu symptoms, but that is what is happening at Scott and White Healthcare in Round Rock.
"It started off kind of late and kind of slow, but within the last week or so, we've been seeing a lot more people coming in complaining of fever, cough, malaise and sore throat," said Scott & White's Dr. Ross Tobleman.
Tobleman said he has not seen as many flu patients this year as last when H1N1 was feared, but there is definitely an uptick of flu right now.
The Texas Department of State Health Services has positive flu tests now in Travis, Williamson, Hays, Bell and Milam counties with flu-like symptoms being reported in all surrounding counties. Still, Tobleman said flu tests do not tell the whole story.

More people with flu symptoms are also going to the Heart Hospital of Austin's emergency room. Others are complaining of kidney stones and shortness of breath.
