Two cases of influenza, on opposite ends of the state, have been reported to the South Dakota Department of Health this week.

The cases came from Pennington and Lincoln counties. Both were children and one was hospitalized, according to state epidemiologist Lon Kightlinger. Influenza B and influenza A-H3 viruses were detected.

"The two cases remind us that it is not too early to get your annual influenza immunization," Kightlinger said.
