The Florida group expected test results by mid-week but were informed Wednesday that a backlog at the only U.S. lab testing for the virus means they possibly won't hear until the end of the week, the Palm Beach Post reported, citing a letter sent to parents from the school's interim director Thomas J. Reid

Geez, what happens if cases start multiplying?

Imagine how backlogged it will be when they bring the 1,000 US citizens back from China.

If the US is considered one of the best equipped to identify and track infectious diseases why are they not able to test these samples quickly? The health director for one of the Canadian cases mentioned a quick test followed by a comprehensive confirmatory test; France, Germany, UK - all capable of rapid testing... why is there such a long delay in US? Doesn't make sense.

I’ve posted a separately on the FDA key steps via emergency authorization for state and local public authorized labs to expand testing. This is key step to get ahead of expected increases & to resolve back logs as citizens return.
