Officials: Total of 31 swine flu deaths in Florida

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. -- State health officials say 31 people have died from swine flu in Florida.
The Department of Health released an updated death toll Thursday.

Federal health officials have sent testing supplies to the state's four labs, allowing state technicians to test samples without the additional step of sending them to the Centers for Disease Control.

The Florida Department of Health reports a total of 3,321 confirmed cases of H1N1 swine flu.

Health officials are urging Floridians to seek medical help if they feel sick, to wash hands frequently, practice good hygiene and to stay home if they feel ill.

3,321 Confirmed Cases Of The Disease In Florida

MIAMI (CBS4) ― There have been eight new deaths in the state of Florida caused by the H1N1 swine flu; 3 of them in Miami-Dade County and 2 of them in Broward County, announced the Florida Department of Health Thursday.

The victims in Miami-Dade were a 57-year old man, a 47-year old man and a 3-year old girl. In Broward, the victims were a 59-year old person and a 49-year old man. A 90-year old woman died in Palm Beach County, along with two men in Hillsborough County. They were 44 and 49 years old.

"Our hearts and prayers go out to the family and friends of these individuals," said Surgeon General Dr. Ana Viamonte Ros. "H1N1 Swine Flu, like seasonal flu, can in some circumstances be very serious, therefore, all of us should continue to adhere to good health practices including, stay home if sick, cover cough and sneeze, and wash hands frequently."

There have been 31 confirmed H1N1 Swine Flu deaths in the state of Florida, which currently has listed 3,321 confirmed cases of the disease.
