Florida: Covid-19 cases - 643,867 cases, 11,963 deaths

11,433 new cases, 92 new deaths, 435 net added hospitalizations - of what? "Resident" hospitalizations? So tourists who are hospitalized don't count? In reality not a lot of tourism now - so probably not a big deal at this moment.

A small first hand coronavirus report from Central Florida.

I have a limited report because I have been self isolating for months.

I have a relative, who does not live with me, test positive for COVID-19. This person, who is under 30, had to wait in line twice for many hours after suspecting that they had been exposed. The positive result came back after 4 days via text. They did not receive any follow-up instructions or any calls to participate in official contact tracing. Since this person was slightly ill for only two days, they did not take any natural or pharmaceutical drugs - nor were any offered. This person still does not have the sense of smell back after 3 weeks. This person did their own contact tracing by alerting everyone that they had been in contact with near the time of illness and this person immediately self quarantined upon feeling sick. All of my relatives know the signs of COVID-19 illness and are not out "partying", going to bars, restaurants, etc. This person became ill as a result of performing official duties.

Since this person self quarantined even before taking the COVID-19 test no one else in the family tested positive. It helps that this person was not sharing a room or bath with anyone else. The testing for the other family members took up to 10 days to receive results. Meanwhile, people with pending results isolated which was a huge inconvenience due to the lengthy time it took to receive results for some.

I am trapped in my house because I am high risk. I have worn a mask the few times I have left. Mask wearing for me is not political. I do it to protect, mostly, the health care workers from having to treat me if I become ill. With more than 500 dead health care workers in the US from COVID-19, it is the least I can do.

Florida’s death toll from coronavirus saw the biggest spike in reported deaths to date with the state Department of Health adding another 132 fatalities to bring the death toll to 4,409.

The state also reported another 9,194 positive cases of COVID-19 to bring Florida’s total to 291,629. The positivity rate for the new cases rose to just over 15% after four straight days below.

The 4,409 includes Florida residents only. At least 104 non-residents have also died in Florida bringing the toll to 4,513 in total.
