TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) - Health officials are urging people to get vaccinated for Hepatitis A after an employee at a Ybor City restaurant tested positive for the virus.

Customers who ate at the Hamburger Mary's Bar and Grille, 1800 East 8th Ave., between Oct. 4 and Oct. 20 should get vaccinated, the health department warned. Those who have already been vaccinated do not need to take action...

ST. PETE BEACH, FL -- The Florida Department of Health in Pinellas County has identified a positive case of hepatitis A in a food service worker in St. Pete Beach.

Following lab confirmation on Nov. 1, DOH-Pinellas immediately began conducting an epidemiological investigation and today determined the individual worked at Toasted Monkey Beachbar & Sportsgrill at 6110 Gulf Blvd. between October 17 and 28.

If you ate at Toasted Monkey during this time period and have not previously been vaccinated for hepatitis A, you should be vaccinated...

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. (FOX 35 WOFL) - If you've made a trip to Disney Springs recently, as the Orange County Health Department is warning visitors of a recent health danger.

According to this department, a worker at Disney Spring's Morimoto Asia restaurant tested positive for Hepatitis A. So, anyone who ate or drank there between November 6th and November 16th may have been exposed...

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WJHG/WECP) - The Florida Department of Health (department) issued a health advisory Wednesday to inform the public of an increase in hepatitis A cases in Florida and outbreaks reported across the country.

The advisory reemphasized the importance of the hepatitis A vaccination.

Since January 2018, 385 cases of hepatitis A virus infection have been reported in Florida. This is more than three times the previous five-year average of 126 cases. Florida?s cases are beginning to mirror national trends as local and state health departments across the country have worked closely with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) to respond to similar outbreaks since March 2017...

From January 1, 2018 through December 31, 2018, 559 hepatitis A cases were reported in 31 counties. The number of reported hepatitis A cases more than doubled from 2016 to 2017 after remaining relatively constant in previous years. Case counts in 2018 have exceeded those seen in previous years and are more than double the case counts in the last 5 years.


The number of reported hepatitis A cases steadily increased each month since April 2018 and has remained at or above the previous 5-year average all year. The number of cases reported in December increased from the previous month and was the highest reported in 2018.

The 147 hepatitis A cases in December were reported in the 22 counties outlined in black. The central Florida region had the highest hepatitis A activity levels in 2018. In 2018, 96% of cases have likely been acquired locally in Florida.

From January 1, 2019 through January 31, 2019, 189 hepatitis A cases were reported in 26 counties.
The number of reported hepatitis A cases more than doubled from 2016 to 2017 after remaining relatively stable in previous years. Case counts in January 2019 are higher than those seen in January of previous years, as noted by the white bar in the figure.

The 189 hepatitis A cases in January were reported in the 26 counties outlined in black. The central Florida region had the highest hepatitis A activity levels. Since January 1, 2018, 97% of cases have likely been acquired locally in Florida.

The best way to prevent hepatitis A infection is through vaccination.Since January 1, 2018, 97% of people with hepatitis A had never received a documented dose of hepatitis A vaccine. In January 2019, 95% of infected people had not received the vaccine. Hepatitis A vaccine is recommended for all children at age 1 year and for certain high-risk groups of adults including illegal drug users and men who have sex with men. MIAMI - A Miami restaurant worker has tested positive for hepatitis A, the Florida Department of Health announced late Friday.

Health officials advised people who dined at Primo's Italian Kitchen and Bar in the 1700 block of North Bayshore Drive between Jan. 26 and Feb. 7 to seek medical treatment. A vaccination against hepatitis A within two weeks of exposure can prevent infection, the officials said. ..

Statewide, Hepatitis A cases were three times higher than in 2018 than the five-year average. But in Orange County, there were 123 cases in 2018 ? more than 55 times the normal amount of cases. And in 2019 so far, we?re already at 15 times the five-year average of cases.

Alvina Chu, the epidemiology program manager for Orange County health department, said Hepatitis A historically came from abroad.

?So people would go travel to another place and get Hepatitis A and bring it back home to us in the United States, but recently the outbreak that?s occurring in Orange County is spread primarily from person to person,? Chu said...

'Hepatitis A' outbreak declared in Martin County after 13 confirmed cases

STUART, Fla. (CBS12) ? There is an outbreak of Hepatitis A in Martin County, leaders declared Friday.

Health experts confirmed 13 cases of the virus in the county.

The announcement came after a couple in their sixties died of complications from Hepatitis A at their home in Palm City last month.

Health experts say they have not been able to isolate the source of the outbreak.

The cases started to surface in January. On Monday, after having five new cases confirmed, the county said it became a high-risk area.

Florida has seen 1200 cases of Hepatitis A statewide, with eight deaths...

STUART, Fla. (CBS12) — Potentially deadly hepatitis A has now reached outbreak levels in two local counties — Palm Beach and Martin.

State Health Department representatives in both counties verified the existence of new cases on Tuesday.

In Martin County, the health agency announced its latest confirmed case of the liver disease, bringing the total to 16, at least since the first of the year — 11 since April 1.

“When you raise awareness about an issue, generally you start to have people pay attention, and they’ll come forward for testing and evaluation,” said Renay Rouse, Health Department spokeswoman in Martin County. “It’s not uncommon to see a rise in cases when you’re shedding light on it.”

Health experts have yet to determine the source of the outbreak. They're gathering interviews, lifestyle information and food histories from those with the virus...

It comes as Martin County is reporting 16 cases and Palm Beach County is reporting six cases since the start of the year.

Okeechobee County is also reporting two cases of Hepatitis A in 2019. The county had two cases in all of 2018, according to health department officials, who are now encouraging people to get vaccinated...

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. - Health officials confirmed Thursday that an outbreak of Hepatitis A is spreading across Broward County.

A spokesperson with the Broward County Health Department told Local 10 that seven cases of adult Heptatis A have been confirmed since the beginning of the year.

The threshold for an outbreak is defined by five cases.

Overall, there have been 690 cases of Hepatitis A reported in Florida since January 1...

PINELLAS COUNTY, Fla. (WFLA) - A case of Hepatitis A has been confirmed at the Pinellas County Jail.

An inmate at the jail is currently being treated for the disease in the medical ward, a sheriff's office spokesman confirmed. Officials say more than 2,000 people at the jail have been vaccinated so far.

Lindsey Marceau tells 8 On Your Side her husband tested positive for Hep A several weeks ago. He was placed in quarantine but has since been released.

"They ran several tests on him and confirmed he contracted Hep A and it was through food," Marceau said. "He could barely talk and I was very concerned for him. He couldn't use the bathroom or anything. He was jaundice."

Marceau says her husband told her many of the inmates are showing symptoms...

TARPON SPRINGS, Fla. ? People who ate at a local Taco Bell in mid-April may have been exposed to hepatitis A.

Our ABC Action News I-Team just uncovered an employee at Taco Bell on 40976 U.S. Highway 19 North in Tarpon Springs tested positive for Hepatitis A, according to an email sent by the Pinellas County Health Department to the state.

The county also reported the employee worked at that Tarpon Spring's Taco Bell during his infectious period from April 12 to April 14.

On April 17, the agency reached out to the Division of Hotels and Restaurants to conduct a joint investigation and food safety inspection.

When inspectors showed up on that day, the state found employees were not washing their hands...

Hundreds of promgoers potentially exposed to hepatitis A after venue worker tests positive

Students at two Florida high schools may have been exposed to hepatitis A after a worker at the venue that hosted their proms tested positive for the virus. The students, who attend F. W. Springstead High School in Spring Hill, and Central High School in Brooksville, were made aware after the Hernando County health department confirmed an employee at the Silverthorn Country Club Restaurant tested positive for the illness.
