Five more H1N1 deaths in Alberta (total 34)

CALGARY- Alberta announced five additional deaths related to H1N1 influenza today, bringing the total number of fatalities in the province to 34 since the new flu strain first appeared in the spring.
The victims include two middle-aged men from the Calgary area, a middle-aged female from the northern part of the province as well as an adult male and an adult female from Edmonton. All of the victims had underlying health conditions.
?It?s an unfortunate event when anyone dies from influenza or another infectious disease,? said Dr. Andre Corriveau, Alberta?s chief medical officer of health.
?We?re going as fast as we can to immunize high risk groups.?
Premier Ed Stelmach expressed his condolences to families of the victims Thursday.
?It is tragic to the families that lose loved ones to influenza,? he said. ?Obviously, Canadians are concerned.?
