The highly transmissible omicron variant of the coronavirus has now been detected in Wyoming.

The University of Wyoming reported the state’s first identified omicron case on Wednesday, and the Wyoming Department of Health confirmed the variant on Thursday morning following genetic sequencing.

The first case of omicron was an Albany County adult with a history of recent domestic travel, the department stated. Confirmation is pending for a second Albany County adult presumed to also be infected with the omicron variant. That case was also initially identified by a University of Wyoming laboratory...
