FORT MYERS, Fla. - The Lee County Health Department confirmed the county's first death from the H1N1 virus Wednesday.

The 51 year old man who died had no pre-existing medical conditions or chronic illnesses according to the Health Department. He was one of forty-three confirmed cases of swine flu in Lee County since April.

Dr. Judy Hartner says the number of confirmed cases could continue to go up and people need to take the necessary precautions. She says you should wash your hands frequently, stay home from work or school if you are sick, and cover you mouth when sneezing or coughing.

The reported death in Lee County brings the total swine flu-related deaths in Florida to eighteen.
