The patient, 52, from Dong Anh District, was transferred to the Bach Mai Hospital as he was suffering from respiratory dysfunction. He was tested positive for H1N1.

The patient later died from critical multi-organ failure. Before that, upon family request, he was discharged from hospital and died at home.

Later, The city Preventive Health Department sent health workers to inspect the area where the patient had been living and instructed local residents how to prevent the flu virus from spreading.

No new infection cases have been reported in the locality since then.

Since breaking out in early January, H1N1 flue has been reported in eight provinces with more than 100 cases, mostly in Hanoi and HCM City.

The Ministry of Health has issued a public warning calling on people to protect themselves and their community by strictly following the preventive measures as advised through broadcasts and leaflets.
