Dengue cases in Delhi at 563; crosses last year`s figure
New Delhi, Sept 29: The onslaught of dengue continued unabated in the national capital with 14 new cases, taking the number of infected people to 563 this season, crossing last year's annual figure of 548.
Civic agencies, whose problems have been compounded by over 2,500 Domestic Breeding Checkers (DBCs) demanding regularisation of work, however, maintained that there is nothing to worry as the virus is likely to abate in another 7-10 days.
Najafgarh continued to be the hot spot of the disease with 79 patients testing positive for the virus so far in the district. Close on the heels are Shahadra North with 67 and West Delhi with 62 cases.
"The number of cases stand at 563, with 14 new cases recorded today," said MCD Public Health Committee Chairman V K Monga.
The civic body, he said, has told the striking workers to either resume work by today and in case of failure, they will be disengaged.
"The strike was sheer blackmail, given the sensitive time of mosquito breeding and we have communicated to the striking DBCs that they will be shown the door if they do not resume work today," Monga said, adding the process is on to recruit fresh workers.
