The first Lombard case of Dengue, the disease carried by the Aedes mosquito, commonly known as the tiger mosquito, has been identified. It is an over 70 year old from the province of Lodi, hospitalized in Crema hospital in good condition. This was announced by the welfare management of the Lombardy Region, adding that the prevention departments of the Milan and Valpadana Ats have already defined extraordinary disinfestation actions in the close vicinity of the places frequented by the patient. A few days ago a possible case of Dengue occurred in Monza.
The Ats themselves are preparing a warning note for general practitioners and hospitals with emergency rooms of Asst Lodi-Crema to recognize the symptoms of Dengue and activate specific diagnostic pathways. The case was also reported to the Ministry of Health and the Higher Institute of Health. 'For citizens - recalls the welfare management - it is necessary to protect themselves from mosquito bites, especially for older people or those most at risk from the effects of the disease'. So it is advisable to use mosquito repellents outdoors and insecticides (and mosquito nets) indoors.
